Tell us a little about yourself, Susie.

I was born in Hollywood, CA and it’s not glamorous as everyone thinks. LOL I’ve been happily married since 1982. I have three children who I home schooled for about 8 years (part of the time while running a day care) and I’m the President of The Busy Woman, Inc.

When I was 25 yrs old, I came to Christ and became a Messianic Jew. When I was little I spent 5 – 6 days per week at synagogue and sang on the Bema (pulpit). I wanted to be a boy so I could wear what the men wore (such as a tallith and yarmulka) and sing on the Bema. I learned early on that enthusiasm for something can very well get you something that is otherwise impossible. Being a child with a LOT of enthusiasm for singing hymns helped to get me up on the Bema. {wink}

In 7th grade I met a girl who was a Christian. Unfortunately she was in a church that made you give up all of your worldly possessions and the more people you brought into the church, the farther up the ladder you got. I didn’t know this at the time so when she gave me my first booklet called Our Daily Bread, I cherished it, keeping it under my mattress and reading it fervently asking God to show Himself to me. There were lots of people in my path for many years, planting God’s seeds. It took me getting married and moving next door to Christians to finally learn and get to the place where I accepted Christ. Hubby was Catholic and I would ask him questions but after answering me off and on for years he said, “This is too important for me to mess up and I don’t have all of the right answers, so you need to speak with one of the leaders.” I did and here I am. {smile}

Q. How long have you been a Christian and what does Christianity mean to you, especially where business is involved?

I’ve been a Christian since 1989. It means EVERYTHING to me in every area of my life! Business is filled with ups and downs that frankly can devastate a person. If I didn’t have Christ in my life I’d either be out of biz or on meds. LOL It’s daily prayer, trust in Him, guidance from Him and so much more. How I treat people and feel about them has everything to do with my relationship with Jesus Christ.

Serving Him is all I desire and when money becomes the main focus because we have to pay the bills, I don’t feel Him like I do when I focus on sharing the gospel and reaching out to others.

Q. What is your primary website and if you have others, can you tell us a little about each site, the goals and purpose for each site.

www.thebusywoman.com is my main website. The Busy Woman’s Daily Planner made such a difference in my life that I bought the company so I could expand it, have a life long business helping others while helping to support my family. Other goals/purposes are to help women find a planner that fits with their personality, spend less money doing it, and offer awesome products that just about everyone needs.

I really didn’t set out to be in business. I needed this product and it was invaluable to me. As I used it others would tell me everywhere I went that they just had to have one, whether that was one of our purses or day planners.I also own www.funpurses.net that offers key finders and casual, every day purses. It is my fun, whimsical site. If it makes money that would be awesome, but it’s not our bread and butter.

Q. How important is it for a business owner to have a Web site?

I would say on a scale of 1 – 100, 98% in importance, even for a company who only serves their local community. So many people use the internet like they use the yellow pages. If you put your personality and information on a website, it could bring in more business than the company who doesn’t have one. I frequently use the internet to find a website about a business to research the company.

Q. What are some of the perks and pitfalls of running a business online?

Perks:

Allows you to reach and service more people, world wide.

Gives the business owner everything in writing.

Helps automate your business in a different way than when you have to do it by hand in person.

Flexible hours

Pitfalls:

It’s less personal between customer and business.

Can give you more business than you can handle.

Your server can go down or you could have technical difficulties.

Q. What are your favorite resources for business owners (offline & online)?

Filemaker Pro database software
U-PIC Insurance
Constant Contact has been amazing for me!

Offline is UPS. I love UPS because they take very good care of me locally. It’s all about developing a relationship with your local office.

Q. What advice would you give to a Christian Business Owner concerning promoting their Internet Business?

Take it slow and easy.

Do your homework. Most women do trial and error and that is not good. Figure out with a mentor what your target market is. Don’t give away trade secrets.

If you get contacted by a magazine, do NOT tell anyone until it comes out. Often times the segment is cancelled. Find one or two trusted others to confide in and team up with. And it’s not rude to get them to sign a confidentiality notice either. It’s a wise business decision. If they are true friends, they will do it without batting an eye.

Busy Woman, Inc. gives you back time that would ultimately be wasted otherwise. You will not be a slave to your planner. YOU are the one who writes what is inside. Day Planners, Purses, Car & Home Organizers, Memory Books, and other gifts can be found at http://www.thebusywoman.com

Interview of a Christian in business: Julie Miller

December 2006

Name: Julie Miller
Business: Little Girls’ Pearls

Q. Tell us a little about yourself, Julie.

A. I am married to my high school sweetie; we have been married for over 11 years now! Time has certainly flown. We have been blessed with two boys, ages 5 and 2. They bring joy, laughter, adventure, energy and noise to my life! They certainly keep me hopping and bless me every single day. We live in a lovely little town on the Central Coast of California . It’s known as the city of murals in the valley of flowers. It’s a wonderful place to raise kiddos. We are beginning our Homeschool journey, and while it’s been a bumpy road I know God will bless this time with our boys. My favorite things to do are play with my kids, walk on the beach and work in the garden. I am so blessed to be home to play with my kids, live 8 miles from the beach and live in a temperate climate so I can garden all year long!

Q. How long have you been a Christian and what does Christianity mean to you, especially where business is involved?

I grew up in a Christian home and attended a Christian school as a child. I dedicated my life to Christ in Junior High at a camp retreat. I truly feel that as a Christian businesswoman I have the responsibility to not only run an honest business but to treat each customer as the special child of God that they are. My signature line of “autumn blessings” (or whatever the season happens to be) is not just a quippy one liner. I openly discuss my faith with my customers on a regular basis. I truly believe that we work-at-home-Christan-mamas have a huge responsibility to be sure that our emails, our website and our orders always reflect the Lord and his grace and mercy.

Q. What is your primary website and if you have others, can you tell us a little about each site, the goals and purpose for each site.

I have two websites. Little Girls’ Pearls http://www.littlegirlspearls.com/ is my newer venture. It turned 1 last month. The purpose of my LGP site is to create heirloom keepsakes that will be passed down from generation to generation. I love the idea of giving the gift of a baptism bracelet to your little one which will in turn be used in her bouquet at her wedding and then passed down to her little one. I find that the material things that I want to hold onto are items that have a family history to them. I feel blessed that I may be in some way part of helping a family start a family tradition.

Jules http://www.julesjewelry.com/ has been around for about 7 years now. I had my 4 year online anniversary in September. I created Jules because I wanted to design jewelry with meaning. I always find that things I love have a special meaning to me. So I design and create each piece custom to order. My signature is my trademark handmade heart dangle charm, but I also offer other pieces as well. Many of my pieces are mothers, grandmothers, family or sister pieces. We are blessed with so many loved ones around us, that sometimes it is nice to celebrate that bond with a visual, tangible item. I always keep one of my little handmade hearts in my pocket or purse to remind me of the bountiful blessings that surround me each and every day. Even on days when it seems life is falling apart around me, I know that God is blessing me even through tragedy. It’s sometimes nice to have a physical reminder of God’s mercy and blessings.

Q. How important is it for a business owner to have a Web site?

This completely depends on your market. I do not have a brick & mortar store and no longer do craft fairs, so a website is my only storefront. I feel that even if you are a brick & mortar store or only do craft fairs; it is still nice to have a website to connect with your customers even if it is for informational purposes only. I am a very internet driven person…I will sooner go to the www to find a name, address or phone number than I will the phone book. I love to look up information, about us, products and services on the web because I can usually find such great detail, advice and information via company websites. It seems that the more I know about a company, the more I trust them. The more comfortable I am with a company, the more likely I will be to purchase something from that company.

Q. What are some of the perks and pitfalls of running a business online?

There are so many great perks, but the wahm world also seems to also be laden with pitfalls as well. I adore the new friends I have made in other wahms and customers that I would never have met if I had not been online. I love that I can write off all of my jewelry findings, fabulous beads and fun technology stuff off my taxes. The best part is being able to stay home with my boys. I never miss a first! I never miss a hug, a snuggle, a kiss or a picture. I am here to kiss scraped knees, put my little one down for his nap, Homeschool, go for walks, visit the park, run around wild at the beach, go on picnics…everything. I am here because I have an online business and my office hours are completely flexible around my kids and their needs. I am also here for my husband when he needs me. I am able to focus on his needs as well as the needs of my boys. I also have the option to close my business for a vacation. One very nice thing about being an online business is that my overhead is so very low compared to that of a brick & mortar store. There are so many lovely “perks” to being an online business owner.

Pitfalls… I find that sometimes my business seems to take priority over my family. There are times, especially during the holiday rush, that I have to work until 2 or 3 in the morning just to keep my head above water. There are times my boys have to wait until I finish a business call or finish packaging up an order for me to play with them. I hate to admit it, but my house is not always the pristine lovely house I’d like it to be. There are times that business stuff gets my grumpy, but this is true of all work. There are times I am not considered a “real” business because I am only online, which hurts my heart because I work so hard at it.

Another pitfall that actually has its upside is that as a wahm of an online business, I’ve become a “Jill of all trades”. God has blessed me with the resources that I have needed to learn to design my own jewelry, as well as be a printer, web designer, marketer, advertising guru, secretary, receptionist, accountant, tax person, chauffeur, deal finder, web master and more! It seems that every time something new comes up, I think to myself that I’d really love to find someone to pay to just do it for me…but in the end it seems that God gives me the resources I need to do the things that need to be done myself. God is good…no matter how overwhelming life seems to get, God is always there lifting me up if I am just able to look to HIM for my guidance, support and help that I need. It’s when I rely on my own actions that I stumble.

Q. What are your favorite resources for business owners (offline & online)

Web Host: Wahmshoppes.com
Search Engine Optimization: GNC Web Creations
Printing: Expressions On Paper

Q. What advice would you give to a Christian Business Owner concerning promoting their Internet Business?

Always do what you know in your heart is right. Pray daily and ask God to guide you.

Think of a business that you shop from and love…how is their customer service? What are their products like? How is their packaging? What type of advertising campaigns do they use? Always market your business in a professional manner and never compromise your beliefs for a sale.

Trading links with other sites that you feel your customers would love is an excellent and free way to advertise. I have spent a LOT of advertising dollars over the years and I have to say have seen very little from it. I have found that the best things that I have done for promoting my business are ~ word of mouth advertising (which you can’t really do on your own, the customer just has to like you), great packaging, good customer service, a nice variety of products that change and grow to meet the needs of my customers. Basically just make your package look like something YOU would like to open.

The word of mouth advertising from good customer service, good packaging and quality products will far outweigh any paid advertising (usually, at least in my experience).

Get Off-line!

Really! If you want to be successful in business... get off-line!

After a full day of work, it was time for a period of reading and reflecting on my businesses. Ready for bed, I curled up with one of my favorite newsletters, The WC (The Print Newspaper for the Work at Home Community.) There was an article written by Alice Seba of InternetBasedMoms.com entitled, "Can Your Passion Really Be Your Business?" Alice made some very profound statements when she penned, "Unfortunately, not all passions can become profitable businesses, so you always need to do your research." Ha! Did she ever hit the nail on the head. She also said, "You must reach a target market that is passionate about their interest or desperately need to solve a problem."

This got me to thinking about my niche: The Christian Business Community. I sincerely believe that this is a viable niche market and yes, it is my primary passion. However, this is not a easy market to pursue, especially on-line!

If you do your research about the "Christian business community" online, there is little to work with. Of course there are a lot of prayer and encouragement groups but none that seriously focus on business alone - as a Christian in Business.

Why you ask? Great question. Most of the people I've talked to indicate they have a challenge with promoting their business as a Christian in business. This is due to the fact that they fear the possibility of losing potential customers due to their spiritual preference. Another myth is, it's not good to mix religion and business. No one has ever said you had to, that is, mix religion and business. Simply put. It is a matter of principle. Biblically based principles. Like integrity, credibility, positive attitudes and most of all, prayer.

Since this seems to be a major concern for a huge percentage of on-line Christians in business, it's time to get off-line.

And I have!

It is amazing! 100% of the people I've talked to off-line, are unafraid! They are not intimidated by what people think about religion & business. As a matter of fact, they were excited at the possibilities of bringing their businesses on-line - as a Christian in business.

There you have it! If you're having a challenge on-line, get off-line! Research networking groups and mixers. Place ads in your community newsletter and submit press releases! Get the word out - off-line that is!

If you struggle with moving forward with your business, I encourage you to get "The Confidence to Act." The Christian Business Community is networking! We're talking, and talking about business. Christian Business Talk Radio is Hosted & Co-Founded by Regina Baker, owner of Christians In Business.com.

"We're making our mark in the industry", Baker says. Her goal is to put the Christian Business Community on the map by interviewing Christians who are in business and newbies as well.

Baker says, "Christians DO have a place in the market place. We work, we have businesses as well as dreams and goals like anyone else. We are, an entity to be reckoned with. I have a dream that one day Christians in business will be recognized in it's own "target market." We will be established business owners and contribute "openly" to the business world."

For additional information and to subscribe to the Free eNews, visit:
Christian Business Talk Radio!

A Stranger's Voice

If God said it, then I BELIEVE it!

Have you ever wondered why when you talk to another Christian, their conversations are sometimes more negative than a non-believer?

I know when I call on a friend for encouragement, that's exactly what I want encouragement, direction and scripture to help me overcome my current dilemma. Don't you? I mean who wants to talk with someone that will further beat them down by depressing them even more?

Like, "wow, that's horrible," or "Girl, you can't do that!." I've seen so many times where People give praise reports on health, family, fianances and business and someone will reply with negativity about the "what if's" and "the world just isn't like that," comments.

God is bigger than the world!

He declares that "greater is He that is within you, than he that is in the world."

I'm not so holier than thou to think that some things aren't suppose to be. BUT, if a person tells me that God blessed them, then who am I to say otherwise? If God brought it to you, He'll bring you through it!

Our attitude is the largest contributor to what we say and do. Our thoughts determine our actions and believe it or not, people want to be associated with positive, encouraging and integrity based individuals.

Christian means to be "Christ like." Christ didn't have a bad attitude, He didn't speak negative words into the lives of those He was in contact with. He was a Motivator, a peace maker and a teacher.

Psalms 125:1 reads: "Those who trust in the LORD are as secure as Mount Zion; they will not be defeated but will endure forever."

Therefore remember, the next time you're talking to a fellow Christian, make sure you speak the words of encouragement they long for! Make sure you're the confirmation they receive after praying and reading the bible.

For those of you who seek widsom, understanding, faith, encouragement and belief... consider the voice you listen to, because a stranger's voice is any voice that disagrees with Jesus' voice in your life.

Biblical Reference: John 10:4

Author: Regina Baker, Copyright 2005

Why a Mastermind Group Will Help Increase Your Bottom Line Results

For years I've looked for ways to be successful as well as profitable on the Internet. Don't be fooled into thinking that it doesn't take research, probing, and most of all patience! One thing I've realized the most is creating relationships and networking creates a wealth of knowledge. It's not all about the "mighty sell" method either. If you are not willing to network to create a friendship first, you are in for a long haul.

If I may be straightforward, you have got to be teachable, coachable and trainable in order to be successful with anything you set out to do.

FACT: Some people are not willing to do what it takes to succeed.

FACT: Some people believe that they know it all and can do it ALL by themselves.

FACT: Some people are being blindly led based on the success of someone else and not their own success because they're too lazy to get the knowledge for themselves.

TRUTH: Knowledge is only power when the knowledge is applied to the task.

Are you STUCK and FRUSTRATED?

"There is synergy of energy, commitment, and excitement that participants bring to a MasterMind Group. The beauty of MasterMind Groups is that participants raise the bar by challenging each other to create and implement goals, brainstorm ideas, and support each other with total honesty, respect and compassion." These are a group of very knowledgeable and internet savvy individuals who know exactly what to do to produce results! I mean, this is why we're online right? To be successful?

Don't let this opportunity pass you by because you've been bombarded and perhaps you're now in an information overload frenzy.

My Story

I joined Mom Masterminds a year ago and stopped attending because I had too much on my plate - well, too much off the wrong stuff that is. I was working my buns off and nothing seemed to work! So, I re-evaluated my bottom line and got rid of the things that didn't work for me.

Then I remembered!

MomMasterminds!

I began to reflect back on the advice, resources and tips that Alice, Kelly, Nell and Lynette shared while I was in the Mastermind Group! I applied some of those techniques and it worked! To make a long story short, my business has never been the same.

FACT: The wrong information stagnates your growth.

TRUTH: Never let the challenges and struggles of the past determine your future!

Get your FREE Sneak Peek TODAY and make your own informed decision!

See you SOON!

Chitika `Ole!

Ha! I don't know why when I see the name Chitika, I think of salsa dancing and the phrase 'ole! (I love salsa!)

Chitika is the new buzz in Internet City. It's almost like Google Adsense, in the terms of placing ads on your site and generating income from clicks. It's really rather cool and shucks, who doesn't need a couple of extra bucks per day?

Don't take me literally here when I say a couple of bucks. I'm sure with persistent focus and the ability to place the ads on popular websites and pages with content, one could possibly make as much as most do with Google Adsense. The talk is: "there's an Internet Marketer who said he's made as much as $700 in a day."

It's the talk of the town and I'm in! Remember when Yahoo! first surfaced? And, Microsoft? What about Amazon? Even Google with all it's ad... sense. I wish I would have been there at the start-up of these incredible giants, maybe I wouldn't be sitting here typing this email to you! I'd be on a tropical Island soaking up every bit of it's beauty!

So, what do you say? Want to be at the beginning of something huge? Want a slice of this incredible pie? During my morning studies, I received the following message:

"Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief."
Mark 9:23-24

The question is: Can you believe?

"Your vision determines the pace of your direction."

Then I open my emails for the day and the message you'll soon read below popped up! Hmmm, the spirit of confirmation is enlightening and powerful! You shall be blessed and fed by the following article.

Make it a great day and PROSPER! and remember...
"Your vision determines the pace of your direction." Creflo Dollar

Regina Baker, Co-Founder
Christians-in-Business.com
-------------------------------------------------

Use Your Belief Power!
By Dr Jill Ammon-Wexler
Life Adventurer
© 2005 All Rights Reserved

Have you ever wondered how you came to be who you are? Why you think the way you think? Why you act the way you act?

Actually there is one source of why we act as we do ... what we are capable of accomplishing ... and who we are. That one source is beliefs. Your beliefs are the superglue that holds your entire personality together.

A True Story

Beliefs can run very deep. They are often securely glued into our subconscious mind, and are not easily overturned. There's a classic clinical story I still remember learning about years ago in an Abnormal Psychology course.

The true story is of a young man who suddenly believes he is dead -- a walking corpse. His exasperated parents struggle with him, and finally arrange an appointment with a highly respected New York City psychiatrist.

The psychiatrist tried his professional best to convince the young man that he was not a corpse, and that he was certainly not dead.

The two men fruitlessly argued the point back and forth. Finally the psychiatrist had an idea he was certain would convince the young man that his belief was erroneous.

The psychiatrist turned to the young man and asked, "Do you think dead people bleed?"

The young man thought about this for a moment, then answered: "No, all body functions have stopped when you're dead. So there would be no blood flowing."

The psychiatrist then took a needle from his desk and pricked the young man's finger. The young man gasped and stared at his finger in amazement. "Well," he finally stammered. "I'll be darned. Dead people DO bleed!"

His belief was so powerful that logical evidence had no influence over it at all.

Here's The Point

Here's the point of this old Abnormal Psychology clinical case: Unless you are willing to take action, your beliefs can remain beyond challenge -- even in the face of undeniable evidence they are not true.

Why is this so? It's because our beliefs have little or nothing to do with reality. They are artificially created "reality filters" built by our minds in an attempt to establish a sense of order and meaning in our personal world.

And once established, our beliefs then serve as a filter of our perceptions of the world around us.

Suppose you were told you're clumsy since early childhood, and you have come to believe it to be true. I'm willing to bet that if I give you a motor skills test proving you have above average coordination, you will "poo poo" the test as meaningless. Why? Because your deep subconscious belief would run right over the external evidence.

If you congruently believe something to be true, your subconscious mind will then automatically filter your perceptions of the world through that belief. In effect -- we only experience reality through our own belief filters.

The Power of a Belief

But there's hope. Here's a piece of history that illustrates how exercising the courage to challenge an old belief can actually shatter the limitations of an old belief-created "reality filter."

For many years it was universally believed to be impossible for mankind to run a mile in four minutes. The athletes of the time held this belief, and the scientific world totally agreed.

But then on May 6, 1954 -- something remarkable happened. It seems there was one man who did NOT believe it impossible to run a "four minute mile." In fact this man firmly believed this barrier could be broken ... and that he would be the one to do so.

The name of this remarkable rebel was Roger Bannister -- and on that fateful day he did indeed run the first historically-recorded "four minute mile."

Bannister's amazing victory illustrates the power of one man's belief in his own capabilities. But it is even more interesting that just six weeks later, Australian runner John Lundy cut one second off Bannister's record. And in the following ten years almost two hundred people also broke this so-called "impossible" barrier.

Why did this happen? Because Bannister shattered the belief that the four minute mile was impossible. And when that belief fell . the 4-minute mile suddenly became possible.

The Only Way to Change Your Beliefs

Your personal beliefs set and define the limits of what you can (and cannot) achieve in your lifetime.

If your beliefs are empowering, your "reality filter" will present a world full of opportunities and success. But if you are have severely limiting beliefs, your "reality filter" will present you with a lifetime filled with one disappointment, frustration and failure after another. That's just the way it works.

If you are not achieving what you desire in your life, there's 100% probability the source of the problem is limiting beliefs and reality filters. And this absolutely will not just go away on its own.

There's one way out of this dilemma -- tackle the problem head-on. There are two tools you'll need to challenge and re-program any limiting beliefs: (1) Absolute passionate desire, and (2) intense focus. Put these to work on an old belief, and you can become your own Roger Bannister.

Dr Jill Ammon-Wexler is a best-selling author of over 20 books, and former consultant to the Pentagon and a Presidential Commission, She is known around the world for her unique S.N.A.P. personal empowerment methods. These are posts written about things the writer is passionate about, be it politics, art, music, economics, motorcycles, travel - whatever. But it is consistently about a particular subject, and it is pursued in depth and breadth over time. Think of such bloggers as bright people with bright thoughts and no traditional media outlet. Blogs provide that media outlet for serious thinkers with good ideas.

The last election brought blogs out of the closet as many bloggers kept news stories alive through investigation, thinking and posting great insights on their blogs. Some bloggers have now turned their blogs into full-time businesses as recognized authorities, or influential thinkers in politics and culture.

How can a product blog create a swarm of customers?

Blogging about a product category or topic allows you to connect with people in an informal human-voice way. It is far more intimate and regular than what you can do with a monthly ezine or newsletter.

Back that communications style up with useful and helpful information about a relevant topic. Give time for some word-of-mouth to work for you.

Develop some links to complementary blogs. And over several months you can create a swarm of people who know you - and are loyal to you - because they feel that they know you and can trust you.

Your writing connects to your product offering…and now you have the beginnings of a swarm that will grow over time as you keep working at it.

How do you get started?

Start by checking out www.blogspot.com and www.blogger.com and www.xanga.com and get the basics of a web-based blog. Read some blogging already on the web. And then just jump in and start writing. Pick a part of your business you are passionate about, and write about that. If you are selling golf balls, write about the game - where to play, what equipment really, really works for the weekend duffer, teaching and swing drill tools that you know work - the kind of information and insights people are looking for to enjoy golf more. Then when the time comes to buy golf balls they'll turn to you as a trusted resource.

How do you attract readers?

Start with people who know you - your friends and family. Get some feedback to improve your writing, then take the blog to your customer base. Let them know that as, say, a camping gear ebiz, you are blogging about great places to camp and great hiking experiences. Invite comments and bring in links to other bloggers writing about similar subjects - like great vacation spots in Colorado, for example. Put a place up where they can post their pictures on your blog.

Keep it all very personal - for example, writing about a great hiking trip where you bought new boots and didn't have to break them in, and where you got those boots. Ask other bloggers if you can link with them. Make it a daily, or every other day, routine and over a few months, you'll have built a base of people who love what you write about - and who buy your products to facilitate their participation. That's when the word of mouth will kick in, and you'll start to experience that swarming phenomenon.

What's the cost, what's the return?

Many blog services get you started for free. But if you want to do things like add pictures, music, and look more professional, then you can upgrade to a higher service level. www.xanga.com for example starts with a free blogging tool - but their far more comprehensive upgraded service is only $4 a month or $50 for 2 years (a 50% savings).

It is possible to get customers swarming to your site like bees to a clover field. Just get busy blogging today - keep at it, keep learning, and get ready to enjoy some of the honey that will come your way.

Rob Wilson
Marketing Director
Worldwide Brands, Inc.

Priorities In Business

"Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witness entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others." (2 Tim 2:1-2 NIV)

As in any other area of Christian service, it is important to establish priorities. We can quickly become so involved with the "urgent" things of this world that we neglect the important things.

Early in a business career, the urgent thing is to make payroll. Later it becomes urgent to make a greater profit or build a bigger company.

There will always be a reason to neglect the important areas, most of which will seem pretty trivial one second after death. Therefore, it is always important to strive for balance in business.

This is as true in a spiritual sense as it is in a material sense. For example, sales are inportant to any business, but if a manufacturing company applies 100 percent of its labor force to sales, the imbalance will be readily apparent.

One of the priorities of a business should be to lead others to a saving knowledge of Jesus. But if all other functions are ignored in pursuit of evangelism, the work will be short lived.

Therefore, the priorities of a business boil down to this: "What are my goals and can my goals be balanced to achieve the overall objectives of serving God while meeting material needs?"

Compared to eternity, the profile of a business is rather trivial and a lifetime of work rater insignificant. If used wisely, though, a business can be used to change the lives of countless lost people.

-----------------------------------------------------
Excerpt from "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" by Larry Burkett

Overcome Fear of Standing in front of an Audience

How do you overcome fear of standing in front of an audience to deliver your message? How do you overcome self consciousness? These questions not only need answers, but the answers must be applied by those who have a message stirring in their heart.

If you have something that you really want to get across to others but are intimidated by crowds, you may never deliver your message unless you take definitive steps to overcome your fear. What can you do to overcome stage fright?

1. Learn your subject well. Fill your mind with information about your subject. If you put in the time to do proper research you have won half the battle. Your confidence grows along with your knowledge of your subject.

But be prepared... that the nervous stomach of yours may not disappear until you actually begin speaking, so don't expect to be anxious free. Actually, some nervousness is good; otherwise, you may become overconfident. However, when you have something to say and you know what you are going to say your confidence will shine through.

2. Be the expert. If you have studied, done the research and are properly prepared, then you are the expert. You assume the role as the instructor.

Develop the mind set that you are the teacher who is teaching them. You are not being arrogant when you assume the position as the expert. You are simply having the attitude that you have paid the price to speak about your subject and you will deliver.

3. Never apologize. Do not begin a speech by saying you are sorry for being un-prepared. As soon as you do you have lost the right to speak. You should never start a speech with any kind of an apology. If you are late or lacked the time to prepare like you wanted, simply do not mention it. Just get started with your speech.

4. Begin your speech without words. When you walk up to the platform to make your speech, pause before saying anything. Look your audience in the eyes. When you approach the beginning of your speech in this manner you communicate to the audience that you are in control. You appear not to be nervous and everyone begins to feel secure. They will be more likely to receive your message.

5. Take your notes, but not your manuscript. You will want to take your outline. This will give you a sense of security. You have studied. You are prepared. The outline will be there to guide you. It will help you stay on track. However, if you take the manuscript you will have a tendency to read too much. You may even get lost in all of the writing you have before you, consequently, you may find yourself filled full of fear. Do not attempt to memorize your manuscript either. You may forget where you are in your speech. Your mind may go blank. (Proverbs 16:3 NIV)

Many people believe that whatever they can conceive and believe they can achieve. This kind of positive thinking and success motivation requires goal setting, to which those people attribute the successes in their lives.

However, all too often these goals are centered on personal success, and the plans to accomplish them become selfish and ultimately self-defeating.

In 1 Corinthians 13, God tells us that whatever is done for self is profitless, and only that which is done out of love will benefit self. This creates a paradox: to be successful we must make someone else successful: to be leaders, we must be servants.

In order for our plans to be established, our works must be committed to God. It is evident that selfish goals cannot be committed to God -- only unselfish ones.

Therefore, the prerequisite for receiving God's help in our planning is the commitment of the end result to God. The problem is that many works cannot be committed to God because of their very nature. At that point, Christians rob themselves of God's help. To paraphrase James 4:3: We ask and don't receive because we ask with wrong motives.

The answer to whether you will succeed or fail is found in today's Scripture verse in Proverbs. Read it prayerfully.

---------------------------------------------
Excerpt from "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" by Larry Burkett

Pray Your Business Into Existence

To begin in business means to first prepare with God's blessing. When you know, what you know spiritually, "All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28

"In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:6

Begin your journey with prayer. "The effectual prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:16

To understand the will of God, means to know that all things that are good in His eyesight are of His will. When I first started my business, I didn't put God first. I didn't pray and ask His blessings over my business. The confusion, doubt and non-focus ultimately led to failure. Oh I prayed but not about business. Don't ever forget this, every good thing, every gift and every plan comes from God. "If He brings you to it, He'll bring you through it." God began to give me the desire to pray not only for my family and others but for my business as well. In doing so He gave me revelation knowledge and wisdom to understand the path I was about to embark on.

One very important piece of wisdom I learned is that prosperity comes from the obedience and consistency of our faith. "Faith comes by hearing and by hearing the word of God." Creating a relationship with God and reading the word of God will give you exactly what you need to manifest your dream. Another wisdom tip is, as Christians we are required to be "Christ-like." It is a prerequisite to obtaining prosperity whether it be spiritually, financially or business minded individuals.

Also, to give of yourself is a powerful path to achieving your desires. A very good friend once told us, "If you see a need, meet it." It's really simple to give and it does not always mean that you must give financially. There are several ways to give, for example, share your positive knowledge with others who are struggling with certain issues. Perhaps you are knowledgeable of business resources, marketing, designing web sites, creating graphics, programming, telemarketing, writing articles, etc., whatever it is, share with others who are less fortunate.

Now, ask yourself this question, "What is your inspiration to start your own business?"

My answer: My inspiration comes from God, the Holy Spirit. I've learned that God's plan for us will be fulfilled when we recognize that our talents, gifts and any inspiration comes from Him and that only what we do for Christ will last.

Pray about your desire to be in business. Listen to your spirit for the answers and don't give up! Failure is something that is chosen - not given. Persistence is just one of the keys to success, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13.

"Commit your work to the Lord, then it will succeed." Proverbs 16:22

Where do we go from here?

You're going to church, studying the Bible, attending Bible Study, a member of a church auxiliary and praying and fasting.

You say, "I'm doing all these things, but nothing is happening in my life, where do I go from here?"

"Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God." 1 Peter 4:1-2

There is power in trusting God. For God's word states that when we are about His business, He's about ours. There's no failure in God and God's promises are real.

The key to endure, is to believe. Faith comes by believing when you pray. God already knows the desires of our hearts therefore, when we pray, we must believe that our prayers are answered!

There is also joy in knowing that in His time all things shall be done. His will according to His plan for us.

"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." 1Co 10:13

As we travel through this plan God has prepared for us, let us humble ourselves and remain faithful to God. "That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises." Heb 6:12

Always know that you are not alone. We are pressing for the mark of the high calling together! Remember...

"And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise." No one is perfect -- yes, even Christians! There is only one perfection and He's not here.

Becoming a Christian is ever becoming. We never "arrive." However, with reading the word of God, meditating day and night, seeking wisdom and knowledge and knowing the conviction of the Holy Spirit, it is only then that we receive revelation knowledge.

Walk the walk and talk the talk. Be the example that Christ has given us to follow. The bible says, many are called but only few are chosen, I believe the chosen are the ones who deny themselves and put lost souls, hurting people, the elderly and sick in their daily prayers. Even when they are going through a challenge they put others first and share the profound word of God. They, are the examples of what it means to be Christian like.

The chosen are visionaries. They seek God's will and infinite wisdom even through persecution.

"Whoever has the world's goods, and beholds his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the loe of God abide in him?... Let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth." 1 John 3:17-18

I see over and over through emails and Christian discussion groups how people send emails crying out for help from other Christians. I've seen how some of the replies have been warm and encouraging while others have been condemnation and assumptions. When people are seeking help, they are seeking the comforting truth of God's word - not man made perceptions of people. We should learn to show compassion and love - just the same that Jesus would do.

We should learn to give in Love and not judgment. We, Christians, should seek the truth of what Christianity means and what are roles are as Christians!

"Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others." Phil 2:4

ATTITUDE... it's the 411 to Success!

ATTITUDE... it's the 411 to Success! (7 Part Series)
Part 1

One of my favorite things to do is... networking. I have been blessed to be a Mentor to many by providing the "real truth" about prospering in life and business. But here's the funny thing, most people are shocked when I tell them it all begins with attitude.

Here's what most people do when starting a business for the first time:

check out the SBA (Small Business Administration)

and then comes the infamous Business Plan

Don't misunderstand me, those are very important steps to starting a business however, if the attitude has not been checked first, there is a good chance that when things just aren't quite going the way you planned, thoughts of negativity begin to seep their way in and then the inevitable happens - you lose focus.

There is a process to everything under the sun! How we choose to deal with obstacles will determine how we come out on the end.

Your first lesson:

Focus attention to your attitude and the decisions you make every day.

Be certain the each (negative) decision you make hinders the growth of your business everyday!

Be certain that each (positive) decision you make is imperative to your success.

"You can't always control circumstances. But you can control your own thoughts." - Charles Popplestone

Always begin your day on a positive note. Acknowledge God in all He has done for you. Begin with a smile. Think positive thoughts and read scripture and affirmations, this will surely bless your day.

If you are prone to asking opinions of people regarding business decisions, who are those people? Don't forget, this is YOUR dream. Only you and God will be able to manifest the fullness of the dream because the passion lies within YOU not others. It is always good to pass things by others, however, never allow someone else's negativity to become your reality. Seek constructive criticism then weigh the pro's and con's. Pray for discernment, seek wisdom and knowledge -- they're waiting for YOU!

Remember this: "If it is to be, it's up to ME."

Until the next time (Part 2) ... monitor your ATTITUDE and watch for RESULTS!

I LOVE Affiliate Marketing!

Several months ago I became intrigued with the niche of affiliate marketing.

"Affiliate Marketing is a widespread method of promoting a website, in which an affiliate is rewarded for every visitor, subscriber and/or customer provided through his efforts. It is a modern variation of the practice of paying finder's-fees to individuals who introduce new clients to a business. Compensation may be made based on a certain value for each visit (Pay-per-click), registrant (Pay-per-lead), or a commission for each customer or sale (Pay-per-Sale)."

If you've been online for any length of time, you probably know exactly what I'm talking about. AM is a simple way to generate part-time income by doing part-time work. The best part about it is, you don't have to own your own product to make money with it!

I got serious about this industry and started researching methods to put "apply" to my existing websites as well as create new ones with other peoples products. This term is gently called, "OPE," other peoples efforts. They do all the work creating the products and services and all I have to do is market them to make a certain percentage. Cool!

I'll tell you exactly how I did it. I immediately got a copy of Rosalind Gardner's, "The Super Affiliate Handbook." Rosalind has made hundreds of thousands of dollars with Affiliate Marketing. Her handbook is simple to read and she basically takes you step by step to learning how to duplicate what she's already done. I also have learned quite a bit about Clickbank, "an online billing and marketing service for the development of affiliate programs." There are thousands of services to decide exactly what you would like to market. You'll even find services that compliment your existing business to offer to your visitors and subscribers.

Just recently, I ran across an incredible tool called, "Affiliates Alert." It's free software that enables you:

Find new affiliate products, those that have just been released.

Find unexposed products, those that are already in the market, but don't have many affiliates and don't sell many copies.

Find overexposed products. I'm GUILTY!

However, REDEEMED! Praise God.

We all go through struggles, I believe a huge percentage of us have a lack of self discipline and on a daily basis, we really don't put faith to work.

I've learned to count my blessings. To praise God for waking up! Having a roof over my head, food to eat and clothes on my back. I repent everyday for things I know of and the ones I don't know. In doing so, I often find peace.

God is a forgiving God. He understands us because he made us. While we should continually seek His word, He knows our hearts, minds, bodies and soul. He knows whether we seek to go about our daily chores with the right intent. I believe this is when He can use us mostly.

As I was working today, I listened to Tommy Tenney (Author of the God Chaser's and Minister), he said that He knows the only part of his church service that God is pleased with is...

The Worship Service!

Hmmm, something to think about. I love to worship God. The word specifically states that "God inhabits the praises of His people." I desire to make Him happy too!

I've learned to worship God during the struggles, lack of discipline and when my faith was not quite "at work." In doing so here's what comes to mind through study...

"The best way to correct a bad habit is to replace it with a good habit."
Luke 18:1 says to pray and not to lose heart. You have to believe that God hears you. A lack of faith keeps the majority of us from ever receiving what God promises us. God loves us. He can't bless us unless we are able to come to Him unre-servedly and believe His Word and His promises.

Trust Him - God will bless us abundantly if we will only TRUST Him.

Spending time with God by studying and meditating on His Word is something we should strive to do. We must believe so throroughly that God loves us and cares about us that when we ask, we expect to receive. (I'm in the process...)

Spending time in God's Word is evidence of a commitment to God's way and will open new avenues of blessings in your life.

"Faith comes from hearing and hearing by the word of God." However, if you follow the principles of success you'll eventually create the same "type" of success.

I believe that we all have talents and gifts. A gift is something that is given to you, "fully packaged." It's not a limiting gift, it's a complete gift, with all the bells and whistles enclosed. However, once you receive a gift, you must "open it" and explore the contents. At that time it is completely up to you whether you'll pull the gift out of the package and utilize it.

Christians-In-Business.com is a gift. A gift from God that He placed within me years ago. It's a place that most people choose not to travel because of "limited beliefs" or what society says is acceptable or unacceptable within the "real business world."

Christians DO have a place in the market place. We work, we have businesses as well as dreams and goals like anyone else. We are, an entity to be reckoned with.

I have a dream that one day Christians in business will be recognized in it's
own "target market." We will be established business owners and contribute "openly" to the business world.

It's my dream, my gift. A gift that is being unraveled into manifestation!

See YOU at the Top!

P.S. Your comments are appreciated.
